I've always loved the empty pages of a blank book; ripe for thoughts to be downloaded onto. Now I'm living my dream, but filling virtual pages rather than tangible ones. I write for specialneeds.com and smarttravelinfo.com as well as Suite101, about whatever presses into my mind out of a variety of topics such as politics, Aspergers and autism, as well as other more lighthearted subjects as home beautification (on a budget) and travel. I also dabble in illustration.
I have a degree in English and Linguistics, completed at university before uprooting and moving to a new country and new experiences in young adulthood. Having an education but no job training, I trained and later worked in my adoptive country's pocket-sized animation industry for a number of years.
More recently, I spent a couple of years homeschooling my Aspergic child, learning from experience how to teach a visual and tactile learner, until the time was ripe for him to return to mainstream education.
With Asperger's in the family, I have learnt a lot about the condition, attending a number of courses on understanding autism spectrum and strategies for raising kids on the spectrum, along with internet research, and forum-based exploration - which can't be overrated in terms of information-gathering - and I feel strongly that a different neurology is just that - different, but not less.
